Oakville a census-designated place (CDP) is located in St. Louis South County along HWY 231 better known as Telegraph Road. It is border on the east by the Mississippi River and the south by the Meramec River.

According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, Oakville has a total area of 17.73 square miles and a population of 36,143 people.

The Oakville area is served publicly by the Mehlville School district and the St. Louis County Special School District. Additionally, there are numerous private schools in the area. 

Nearby is St. Louis Community College's South County Education and University Center is located off Meramec Bottom Road at Lemay Ferry Road. The area is served by the Cliff Cave Branch of the St. Louis County Library.
